Sarah Hoskins


Sarah Hoskins is a documentary photographer based in the Chicago area. She follows her projects where they lead or as far as her credit card will allow. The love of the documentary process is what guides her, whether it means returning day after day or year after year. It is that type of commitment to her work that has lead to widespread recognition and publication.

Hoskins' photographs were most recently exhibited in a solo exhibition this March at the Salt Institute for Documentary Studies in Portland, Maine. Her work is included in the Museum of Contemporary Photography's Midwest Photographers Project and has been purchased by the city of Chicago. Her work is in the permanent collections of the Center for Photography at Woodstock, CITY 2000, the Lubbock Fine Arts Center and the Library of Congress.

Hoskins' work has appeared in Newsweek, Focus (Germany), National Geographic Traveler, American Photo, Photo District News, and in many other important media. She is the recipient of numerous awards, honors and grants, including:

Illinois Arts Council Special Assistance Grants (2006 and 2004)

Ella Lyman Cabot Trust (2004)

Illinois Arts Council Fellowship in Photography (2003)

Puffin Foundation (2003)

Honorable Mention from the Houston Center of Photography Fellowship program (2003 and 2002)

Illinois Arts Council Short-term Artist Residencies (2002 and 2001)

Illinois Arts-In Education Roster to teach documentary photography in the sate of Illinois (2002-present)

Northwest Area Arts Council (2001)

One of three finalists for the Morrie Camhi Prize for under-recognized documentary photographers (2000)

Gordon Parks Finalist Exhibition (1995 and 1996)
