Robert Knoth
Robert Knoth was born in Rotterdam, the Netherlands, in 1963. After studying at the Art Academy in Utrecht for a year, he moved on to work as a rock
photographer from 1990 to 1994, before being drawn to Somalia to cover the civil war.
Subsequently, he has worked widely abroad doing stories in Afghanistan, Sudan, Kosovo, Croatia, Angola, the USA, Burkina Faso, Thailand, Israel, Kazakhstan,
Russia, Hungary, Spain and Kenya, as well as several trips to Somalisished. He work is published widely across Europe and elsewhere around the world.
Knoth's 1995 to 1999 reportage on Burkina Faso, Somalia, Sierra Leone, Afghanistan and Angola received several awards from Zilveren Camera, Holland's annual
photojournalism contest. In 1999 he won 2nd prize in
World Press Photo's 'People in the News' for his
photography in Angola. In 1993, Knoth published a book of
portraits on three generations of Dutch rock-stars from the
early 1950s up to the beginning of the 1990s. The book
was nominated for the 'Kees Scheerer-prijs', a prize for
best Dutch photography book of the year.
