Richard Sennott


Richard Sennott began working as a photographer at the Minneapolis Star Tribune in 1987. He has covered wars in El Salvador, Bosnia and earthquakes, floods, tornadoes and major forest fires around the world.

Most recently, Sennott spent time in Kurdistan in northern Iraq, documenting the pesh merga and their struggle against Ansar al-Islam, the victims of Halabja, daily life in Kurdistan and the liberation of Kirkuk.

Sennott's work is recognized regionally and nationally. He has won numerous industry awards from the National Press Photographers Association and the Inland and Associated Press. He has also received an NEA Fellowship in photography as well as two McKnight Fellowships. Sennott is currently working on a Minnesota State Arts Board fellowship, photographing first-generation immigrants who have settled in Minnesota.
