Nikos Pilos
Based in Athens, Greece NIKOS PILOS is one of the country's most prominent feature story photographers specializing in reportage in countries in conflict.
As a special contributor to K, Greece's popular news weekly published by Kathimerini, Pilos generates timely and compelling news features that appeal to a large audience.
Prior to K, Pilos has spent a decade covering hard news and developing feature stories for national dailies such as Proti, Vima, Mesimerini and E magazine.
From there he became an independent contributor to leading news weeklies where he did numerous in-depth documentaries in war zones such as Israel, Palestine, Lebanon, Romania, Albania and Yugoslavia.
Most recently, he spent 100 days producing moving human-interest stories while on his own, unemdeded, in Iraq. He also covered the poor international response Pakistan's tragic earthquake and received honorable mention in Unicef's Photo of the Year competition for this powerful work.
Some of his other reportage topics include: homeless squatters in London; drug addicts in Portugal's ghettos; Moita school for children bull fighters; Germany's special school for troubled students; children of Gaza; the rise of cancer rates in Iraq, among others.
Pilos' professional career as a photojournalist began in 1987. Since then, his work has exhibited around the country and been published worldwide in Newsweek, Stern, Focus, Bild, the Independent, Panorama and the New York Times.
He is a founding member of Greek Photojournalist's Association and is represented by ZUMA Press.
