Mark Allen Johnson

ZUMA Press contract photographer Mark Allen Johnson began career in the world of fashion and commercial photography. Soon after he mastered lighting and setup shots he moved on to his true calling--telling real-life stories through his camera. Living by the philosophy that he can never get too close to the subject or action, Johnson made the switch from commercial to documentary photojournalism and never looked back.

While Johnson doesn't like to be typecast into any specific genre of photography, he thrives on the challenge of capturing moments in time that, when combined together, shed light on important issues of national and international concern.

His ability to adapt and fit in to any group or situation is reflected in his work. Be it fortune 500 CEO portraits or scenes of a drug deal gone bad, Johnson's stories and images have broad international appeal that a diverse list of clients from ranging from Newsweek and Vibe to Penthouse appreciate and respect.

Johnson is a journalism graduate from Cal State Northridge. He is currently based in San Francisco, California. In the spring of 2006 he will depart on a yearlong sabbatical abroad to produce important stories of social significance but will remain available for assignment work during this time.
