Kate Karwan Burgess

After graduating from West Point in 1995, and spending seven years as an Aviation Officer in the Army, Kate Karwan Burgess decided to change careers and follow her passions in photography. She left the military in 2002 and earned a MA in Photography from Ohio University's School of Visual Communications in 2004.

Burgess is known for her ability to see detail and capture unique and varied environmental portraits. Burgess is proficient in Portuguese and Spanish; and her interests include issues involving the military, women, music, and children with special needs. Currently a freelance photographer based east of San Francisco out of Modesto, California, she continues to passionately shoot documentaries of subjects, environmental portraits, and matters close to her heart.
