Kash Gabriele Torsello

KASH GABRIELE TORSELLO, a native Italian based in the U.K., finds his greatest inspiration in documenting the daily lives of those who struggle to be free: free from poverty, war, discrimination and ultimately, free from fear.

Since he left for India 11 years ago, his work has focused on the ongoing war in Kashmir, with his last visit to the region in November 2001. Torsello is the author, photographer and publisher of The Heart of Kashmir, which has won international journalistic and political acclaim as it was honored with the British Book Design and the Production Awards of 2003. Torsello's captivating images and compelling words provide insight on how locals survive under the shadow of constant humiliation and suffering.

In addition to Kashmir, Torsello has produced many other significant essays around the world including Nepal, the Himalayan Kingdom that is spiraling into a cycle of political instability and poverty. He spent time with Maoist rebel forces who, they say, dedicate their lives to the fight against poverty and the overall injustice of their country's regime.

Torsello's work has exhibited around the world. He is currently working on a number of new books and in-depth stories. He is represented worldwide by ZUMA Press.
