Eustacio Humphrey
Eustacio Humphrey (36) is a staff photographer for The Plain Dealer.
Born in Panama, he moved to Boston at age 12. He earned a bachelor's degree in
journalism from Northeastern University and studied documentary photography
at Ohio University School of Visual Communication for two years. Thereafter,
he worked at The Palm Beach Post as a staff photographer.
His photography has earned a number of prestigious awards and nominations,
including finalist in the 2001 Nikon Sabbatical Documentary Photography Foundation
and finalist in the 2000 World Press Photo Foundation Master Class. In 2002,
The Plain Dealer published Humphrey's documentary "The Burden of Innocence";
it earned awards and recognition from Harvard University Neiman Foundation and
Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism.
His work has appeared in The New York Times, Newsweek Magazine,
The Seattle Times, Atlanta Journal-Constitution, DOUBLEtruck
Magazine, The Boston Globe, AmericanPhoto and MSNBC.com Pictures of the Week.
Humphrey is currently working on a long-term project that documents the traditions
and lives of members of the Nation of Islam. His project began in 1998 and has taken
him to many cities across the American Midwest.
