Daniel Beltra

World Press Photo Award-winner Daniel Beltra is the photojournalist of choice for news, documentary and environmental photography.

Beltra kicked off his career based in Madrid as a staff photojournalist for EFE Spanish National Agency. From there he moved on to Gamma where he spent a decade as the Spanish correspondent covering hard news and features around the world.

In the early 1990s Beltra hooked-up with Greenpeace and quickly became their main assignment photographer. Since then, he's covered four Arctic expeditions, logged over 2,000 hours of aerial photography, mainly from helicopters, and spent over two years of his life sailing on Greenpeace ships.

Beltra's work has showcased in countless Greenpeace ads and brochures. He's also been published in prominent media including TIME, Paris Match, Der Spiegel, Geo, Stern and more.

In 2006, Beltra's powerful environmental story on one of the worst droughts ever recorded in the Amazon a World Press Photo award. The drought, which some scientists blame on global warming, dried up large parts of the world's largest river killing tens of millions of fish, stranding hundreds of remote communities, spreading disease and economic hardship across the region.
