Chris Curry
Multi-award-winning photojournalist Chris Curry offers a fresh, honest perspective on stories close to his heart.
He is well known for his in-depth documentary "Old Order in a New World," about the Amish community near Arthur, Illinois--a project that posed a real challenge considering how the Amish shun photography. After winning the heart of a local minister, who took pity on Curry, the photographer was gradually accepted by the community, one member at a time.
Curry's "Old Order in a New World," shot while he was a staffer at the Peoria Journal Star, received numerous awards and accolades, including a POY for Feature Photography and the Best of Photojournalism Cliff Edom New America Award. He is also the proud recipient of the Canon Award by the Sasakawa Sports Foundation, first place by Editor & Publisher in the multiple picture story category, five Copley Ring of Truth Awards and six Associated Press Managing Editor Awards, among others.
In 2004, Curry completed a five-city speaker tour with the NPPA's Flying Short Course and was honored with an invitation to be faculty at the Atlanta Photojournalism Seminar. At the end of 2005, Curry moved to The Virginian-Pilot, where he pursues his passion for shooting features, documentaries and environmental portraits. He is represented worldwide exclusively by ZUMA Press.
