Burundi - Life After War

Burundi has recently emerged from twelve years of devastating civil war. Its economy destroyed and hundreds and thousands of people were killed - The voices of ordinary Burundians are being heard for the first time.  In 1994, Burundi became the scene of one of Africa's most violent and intractable conflicts between the dominant Tutsi minority and the Hutu majority. More than 300,000 Burundians were killed and hundreds of thousands others were internally displaced or became refugees. In 2005, Burundians had their first parliamentary elections since the end civil war. Burundians - Farmers, artisans, traders, mothers, soldiers and students look to the future, with hopes for a better life.
